Mr. Miguel de Unamuno: The visits to “Las Arribes del duero”. Spain and Portugal (1898-1902)
Alot of articles have been written about D. Miguel’s trips to “Las Arribes” and another shires in Salamanca. Curiously most of them are actually the main touristic routes in “Castilla y león” region, Spain.
But now, we can develop our acknowledgements by getting new photographs and data about his tours.
Aldeadávila de la Ribera also called “the heart of Arribes” offers us a touristic information about the chancellor of Salamanca University. Works and efforts made by F. Marquina and R. Rodríguez in Tourism Office are available. Thanks to Popular Tv also.
D. Miguel de Unamuno’s second trip and his guests took place during first days on may, 1902. On 21th January, Leopoldo Gutiérrez proposed to Mr. Unamuno to do it in Holly Week, and unamuno on 11th March, answered him:
*Since I receipt your letter (29th January) I do not think more than the possibility to do the visit along this province of Salamanca.
I wrote it to Maeztu and if you decide he could come. here there are two shires very interesting for visiting: the “Ribera del Duero” and “Sierra de Francia” close this one to Candelario.
If you are agree , please notify me that before, and we shall have all ready. Coming with me, there will be the advantage to dispose of the schoolteachers of the villages and more the mayors. It is not necessary a recommendation letter for them: the presence of me is enogh.
I wish it a lot, and also Mr. Maeztu“.
Now you can read POLL and answer.
Periodically, we will publish some entries about the lovely Arribes european park, placed between Spain and Portugal joined thanks to Duero-Douro river.
